Zimbabwe Upgrades Borders with Automated System
Zimbabwe Upgrades Borders with Automated System -
In a move that could finally put an end to those border-crossing headaches, Zimbabwe is gearing up to roll out a brand-new Online Integrated Border Management system across all its entry points. And, if all goes according to plan, this high-tech overhaul should be in place by the end of the year.
Already, the government has announced intentions for the whole country. The Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, Hon Kazembe Kazembe on 31st August 2019 confirmed that the system has already been deployed at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport in Harare where he recently visited and gave an update on it.
So what’s so great about this new system anyway? One is where faces are matched with personal details of travelers from multiple sources such as civil registry, republic police of Zimbabwe and Immigration Department. The goal here is total automation in border management which will reduce manual checks and human involvement. In other words, no more long queues or burdensome paperwork—this system is about speed and efficiency.
The Chief Immigration Officer, Mr Respect Gono said that putting up E-gates would complete the entire process of automation. With their installation we would have some of Africa’s most advanced borders that offer better passage point experiences for everyone coming into or going out of Zimbabwe.
Thus if you plan to visit Zimbabwe any time soon then just come through the border without any problem thanks to this developed technology; travel safely!
