The High Line New York
The High Line New York
A fabulous activity to see a piece New York history. Once destined for demolition, it was saved by the community and turned into a park. It inspired other cities to transform industrial zones that were no longer used into areas where people enjoy the public space created instead.
So when did it all start? By the Mid-1800s freight trains ran through New York on street-level tracks. Rather dangerous when you come to think of it. And that is what New Yorkers thought as well. The railroad hired "West Side Cowboys", men on horses to protect pedestrians by waving red flags when a train would arrive. Eventually it was decided to remove the street-level tracks and the High Line was born
In 1933, the first train ran on the High Line—which was then called the “West Side Elevated Line.” It even ran straight through some buildings, creating easy access for factories like the National Biscuit Company (aka Nabisco), now the home of Chelsea Market. Eventually it outran its usefulness and became an eyesore.
1999 - The High Line New York
It was not until 1999 that serious plans started to develop the High Line into something beautiful.
Today's activity is truly magical.
Today our guests will start the day off visiting the newly developed Hudson Yards, the largest private real estate development in the history of the United States. Also a major innovative feat in architecture, urban development, sustainability, andcenter for artistic invention. Hudson Yards houses the new home of L'Oréal U.S headquarters.
