Liquid Rule Scrapped in Major UK Airports -
Fantastic news for travellers from the UK - that pesky liquid rule that's been bothering most holidaymakers? Well, it just become a thing of the past at some major UK airports!
By this summer, all terminals of London’s Heathrow Airport will have security scanners installed, while others are set to adopt the same. What does this imply for you? In other words, depending on your destination, you can carry liquid weighing more than 100mls.
A representative from the Department of Transport (DfT) told reporters that these new scanning devices were not only aimed at ensuring security but also moving people through airports seamlessly. Already in operation on some lanes in Terminals 2, 3 and 5, they will soon be rolled out over Terminal 4 more widely too.
Now, about that timeline – airports are hustling to meet the June 2024 deadline for upgrading their screening gear. MAG, the brains behind Manchester, Stansted, and East Midlands airports, is tackling the challenge "lane by lane," with plans to have it all sorted by 2025.
Fun fact: London City Airport waved goodbye to the liquid rule last April, and it's been smooth sailing ever since. No more separate bags for your liquids – just grab and go!
Before you start celebrating, a quick heads-up from Nicky Kelvin over at The Points Guy: If you're traveling with hand luggage, make sure to check the current rules for your departure and destination. And if you're a transit passenger, stay extra vigilant.
So, here's to smoother travels ahead – cheers to that!
