From grand temple fairs to cutting-edge art exhibitions, there is always something happening in the Chinese capital.

Festivals in Beijing are characterized by traditional music performances, vibrant parades as well as elaborate shows. Among all festivals throughout the year, Chinese New Year Festival (Spring Festival) is regarded as the most important one for local people. The festival usually starts from late January to mid-February on lunar calendar, marking the beginning of a new year according to lunar calendar system. During this period, Beijing gets dressed up with bright colors like red and yellow while dragons and lions dance around every corner along with firework displays lighting up night sky above crowded streets where families gather together once again for reunion dinners after being apart during whole year long. At such time when residents pay tribute to their ancestors by burning incense sticks at home or temples; exchange lucky money in red envelopes (hongbao); eat jiaozi (dumplings) shaped like ingots made from glutinous rice flour filled with meat and vegetables among others.
