Panagia Feast Day

August 15 is a national holiday in Greece dedicated to the Virgin Mary, Mother of God Dormition. It is celebrated in the whole country, mostly in temples and within the towns and villages’ confine or in open-air festivals such as in Tinos and Paros island, where there are processions and religious rites participated by the locals and tourists alike in banquets and festivals. It is observed as one of the major celebrations in the country attracting both the spiritually inclined and for the people’s entertainment.

Ohi Day

Ohi Day is observed on the 28th of October to remind everyone of Greece's refusal to accept an Italian ultimatum during World War II. The entire nation is in parades, and it is a day full of proud nationalism. Numerous military and school parades emphasize the spirit and fortitude of the nation. This is very much an Algerian day which borders on opportunism particularly since the images of conquering fascism are fresh in their minds.
