Indonesia is a lively country with a variety of cultures and natural beauty. The events here are as diverse as its islands, from the traditional ceremonies to contemporary festivals. Many of these celebrations have deep historical and religious roots in Indonesia thus allowing tourists a glimpse into the local mores and customs.

Colourful parades, traditional dances, live music performances are common sights at Indonesian events. Festivals like Nyepi – Balinese Day of Silence and Galungan which commemorates the triumph of dharma over adharma are particularly outstanding. Aside that, guests may participate in thrilling activities such as Pasola spear fighting festival in Sumba or dynamic Java Jazz Festival held in Jakarta.

Waisak Day

Celebrated nationwide, Waisak Day marks the birth, enlightenment, and death of Gautama Buddha. Falling on the full moon in May, this important Buddhist holiday is marked by large congregations at Borobudur Temple located in Central Java, one of the biggest Buddhist structures globally. Different rituals including meditation, offerings and a calm candlelit walk within the temple grounds that give it a serene atmosphere make up part of these devotions.

Bajawa Ikat Weaving Festival

The Bajawa Ikat Weaving Festival is held every July in Ngada Regency on Flores Island. This festival highlights Ikat weaving arts practiced traditionally for centuries among locals here. The artisans from all over showcase their intricate textiles woven through time-tested techniques during this period. More so, visitors can witness live weaving demonstrations while participating cultural dances or buying unique handcrafted Ikat fabrics making them understand the rich cultural tapestry of Flores better.
