Events in Lisbon

Lisbon is a vibrantly lively and traditionally cultured city. The events that transpire in this region showcase an infusion of contemporary culture and age-old traditions. There are many joyous events where people and musicians celebrate the streets with their dances and delicious food, as well as pageants devoted to saints and modern art, and so on. Each June, the city comes alive with the famous festivities, the most exciting of which is the Feast of St. Anthony, filling the streets with dancing and grilled sardines. Other festivities incorporate activities that relate more to the sea that made Lisbon great.

Additional Events in Lisbon

Festas de Lisboa

The entire city of Lisbon brims with exuberance in the month of June as the festivity of the Festas de Lisboa is held every year in celebration of St. Anthony — the patron saint of the city. There are many street parties, people barbequeing sardines, parades and much more during this time. Most of these activities tend to take place in Alfama which is one of Lisbon’s oldest districts that is highly decorated with lights where people enjoy folk songs and dances.

Santo António Weddings

During the Festas, the Oeiras’ Santo António Weddings happen, when many couples get married in one, great, joint ceremony. This is a custom intended to be a blessing and it is very well received as an extra cultural touch to the festival.
