New Zealand is a land with stunning sceneries and dynamic cultural occurrences. The calendar of events in the country is filled with celebrations that display its rich Maori inheritance, various arts scene, and outdoor life.

From a boisterous Pasifika Festival in Auckland to a tranquil Marlborough Wine and Food Festival; there is something for everyone to find. Notably, the major sporting activities, music shows and traditional Maori rituals are what brings people together.

Waitangi Day

Waitangi Day which falls on the 6th of February is the commemoration of the signing of Treaty of Waitange back in 1840. The Treaty represents a founding document for New Zealand. The festivals are characterized by cultural displays, traditional Māori ceremonies and community events all over the country. In Bay of Islands at Waitangi Treaty Grounds, there are speeches, music and a service of remembrance.

Matariki Festival

The Maoris call their new year Matariki which is celebrated in June or July when Pleiades star cluster rises in the sky. This ceremony however marks time to honor the past by celebrating today and dreaming about tomorrow. There are also community feasts along with teaching workshops, traditional Māori music and dances as well as storytelling sessions. This major cultural event has nurtured deeper insight into and admiration for Māori customs throughout New Zealand.
