For Osaka, there is always something happening ranging from cultural parades, food festivals to music concerts.

The year through, one can see lovely cherry blossom festival as well as mesmerizing illumination. One of the top three festivals in Japan in Osaka Tenjin Festival which entails a grand boat parade and magnificent fireworks display.

Tenjin Matsuri

The Tenjin Matsuri is one of Japan’s “Three Great Festivals” that are held in Osaka every year on July 24th to 25th. The event began over a thousand years ago and is dedicated to Sugawara no Michizane, the deity of learning and art. Among its highlights are colorful parades with participants dressed in their national costumes, dynamic boat procession along the Okawa River and breathtaking fireworks.

Sumiyoshi Taisha Grand Festival

During July 30 to August 1, there is also the Sumiyoshi Taisha Grand Festival known as Sumiyoshi Matsuri which has been celebrated for centuries at Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine where several rituals take place alongside traditional music and dance acts. The major event of this festival is Mikoshi parade when portable Shinto shrines are carried through streets by the local people.
