Events in Reunion

Reunion Island is a vibrant and dynamic destination, with events as varied as the island itself. Its unique mix of cultures is evident in its festivities, which frequently blend Creole, French, Indian, and Chinese influences. These activities are steeped in history and feature energetic music, flamboyant dances, and mouth-watering local dishes.

One of these events is the Grand Boucan, an exuberant carnival that floods the streets with extravagant costumes and lively parades. Another festival worth mentioning is Dipavali Festival where Hindu festival of lights is celebrated through stunning displays and performances. For all lovers of music there’s Sakifo Musik Festival which sees international artists coming together to perform different genres on one platform.

Cavadee Festival

This vibrant Hindu festival takes place in Reunion each year usually during January or February. Followers pierce their bodies with needles before carrying colorfully decorated arches called ‘cavadees’ in procession to temples. It serves as both an expression of faith and a testament to endurance while also celebrating the cultural diversity found on this island.

Dipavali Festival

In October or November every year Reunion Island becomes brighter than ever before thanks to Dipavali Festival – also known as ‘Festival of Lights’. This Hindu event symbolizes victory over darkness by illuminating streets & houses with lamps; people create rangoli designs using colourful powder outside their homes during this time too ; traditional live performances take place such as music playing along with dance performances while delicious food gets served reflecting multi-ethnic cuisines brought about by diverse cultures living side-by-side on this beautiful island.
