Events in South Korea to plan for

South Korea is a vibrant country with a rich history and culture. The events here range from traditional festivals to modern celebrations that represent the old customs mixed with new influences. Most of the holidays are based on significant historical dates and local traditions.

South Korea offers a wide variety of events, such as the Lotus Lantern Festival’s colourful lantern parades and Boryeong Mud Festival’s energetic performances. Each festival has live music, dances full of vigour, and often tasty dishes prepared with local ingredients. The Seoul Lantern Festival is held annually and it is worth visiting because it illuminates the city with beautiful lights.

Chuseok

Usually falling on September or early October, Chuseok is one of the major holidays in South Korea. It is a time for families to gather together and pay respect to ancestors through various rituals and meals. During this period, people traditionally make songpyeon (rice cakes), among other foods; wear hanbok (traditional Korean clothing); participate in folk games such as tug-of-war or ganggangsullae (a traditional Korean circle dance). Chuseok represents gratitude for abundant autumn harvests while also providing an opportunity for people to reflect on their roots.
