Every April 27th, the Netherlands explodes into orange madness for King's Day. This national holiday commemorates the birth of King Willem-Alexander. From vibrant street sales and boat competitions to musical concerts and city-wide bashes, the entire nation is in a celebration mode.

Sinterklaas

In early December, people in the Netherlands observe Sinterklaas; a popular Dutch tradition that predates Christmas. On December 5th night, kids wait anxiously for Sinterklaas together with his assistants who bring gifts and candies. The ceremony involves family gatherings, present exchange as well as comedy rhymed poems reading out loud to an audience.
