Events in Edinburgh

Edinburgh, a city of history and culture that holds events all year round, can be quite a sight. Whether it’s the Christmas markets or Hogmanay New Year’s celebrations lighting up Scotland’s winter nights, there is always something to do in this vibrant city. However, these are just additional seasonal festivities along with what they have going on already.

The arts take centre stage on Edinburgh’s calendar with live theatre performances from around the world drawing crowds as well international film festivals and music concerts. Being a UNESCO City of Literature also means that there are book festivals celebrating both local and global literary heritage which attract authors not just readers.

It is hard to choose which events we should publish. We are trying to stick to the main ones, but if you would like to see another event added, please let us know at: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

We add events on a continuous basis. So if you want to stay informed of the latest information, please bookmark this page.

Running throughout August in Charlotte Square Gardens (nearest to Edinburgh Festival Fringe) this festival sees writers come together from around the world as well as poets and novelists closer home – there will be book readings discussions debates and many more things happening so if you love books this is paradise on earth where you can meet your favourite authors or discover new ones in an atmosphere that only encourages good reading.

Burns Night

Burns Night takes place every January 25th when Scots celebrate their national poet Robert Burns’ life through his works like “Auld Lang Syne”. Readings/recitals of Burn’s poems are usually done alongside Scottish music plus haggis suppers (sheep meat mixed with onions oatmeal suet spices salt & pepper stuffed into sheep stomach) served with neep mash tatties
